Crafting is a gameplay mechanic that allows you to create tools, buildings, and items using available resources. You can access the crafting menu by pressing C.
The crafting menu will provide you with the recipes for all current craftable items. Keep in mind that in order to craft certain items (such as buildings or garden plots), you will need to have a special tool equipped (i.e. a hammer or a hoe).
The resources available for crafting at any given time are determined by both proximity and your inventory. Items near you on the ground as well as those in your inventory will be available in the crafting menu. While in the crafting menu, an orange circle will appear in the background to indicate what resources are within your crafting radius.
Once an item is crafted, you must place it on the ground or on the attachment you desire. Be aware that if you position items too close together, or too close to resources on the ground, you will not be able to place them.

Structures[]
Water Still[]
The Water Still is the only structure that continually produces drinkable water. Once constructed, you will need to place fibrous leaf or palm fronds underneath it in order for it to produce water. Water Stills do also gather water from rainfall.
To operate, hold an empty Drinkable Coconut, Water Skin or Clay Water Bottle and interact with the still. This will remove one "water charge" (maximum 4) from the still and fill a coconut, or add one serving to a Water Skin or Clay Water Bottle. You can also drink directly from the Water Still.
Water Stills require one fibrous leaf or palm frond for each unit of water (4 total at a time).

Shelter[]
After acquiring all the necessary materials for the construction of the shelter and finding a suitable location, simply go to the Crafting menu by pressing the 'C' button and select Crafting > Structures.
The Shelter is used in the same manner as the Sleeping Bag and Bed. You can sleep and save your current game progress. Simply hover over it and while holding the 'use' button (default: LMB) the user will be prompted with a menu in which there is a choice between the regular 'sleep' option and the 'save' option.
One difference between the sleeping bag and shelter is that the shelter cannot be moved once placed. However you can destroy it with an axe and craft it again somewhere else.
Plank Station[]
Plank Station is used to create Plank Scraps from Trunks of downed Palm Trees.
When using a Plank Station, Palm Trees do not need to be broken into Trunks in order to create Plank Scrap, simply drag the downed tree to the Plank Station and craft the Plank Scraps.
One Plank Scrap is created per Trunk section.

Fuel Still[]
Fuel stills are required to make fuel for rafts and gyrocopters. You must place potatoes as fuel, and light the camp fire on it for it to start working. It takes about one stick of fuel (for the camp fire) to convert one a group of potatoes into fuel. One potato equals 1/4 of a Jerrycan. The fuel still can hold 4 groups of potatoes at once, this will fill an entire jerrycan. Spoiled potatoes can be used. It takes about 2 - 3 farming plots to grow enough potatoes to sustain a player depending on their on traveling habits, here is an estimation based on the player's habits:
- Player uses the raft about once a day = 2 farming plots of potatoes
- Player uses the raft about twice a day = 3 farming plots of potatoes
- Player uses the gyrocopter once per day = 3-4 farming plots of potatoes
It is better to have too many potatoes than not enough. Only one fuel still is needed, any more would most likely be considered a waste. Potatoes that have gone spoiled can still be used with the same effect of fresh ones.

Furnace[]
The Clay Furnace is a structure in Stranded Deep that has been integrated into the game with the update to version 00:25:00 E1. It is used for the production of clay objects such as the Clay Bottle and Clay Bricks (in conjunction with the Brick Station). The furnace burns continuously and does not have to be fed Sticks or Palm fronds. Due to it's continual burning, it can also be utilized as a light source at night. However the burning fire does not provide protection from the Flu.
After acquiring all the necessary materials for the construction of the furnace and finding a suitable location, simply go to the Crafting menu by pressing the 'C' button and select Crafting> Structures. It is not possible to directly interact with the furnace, since it is only a component in the production of clay objects.
Since the furnace is used together with the Brick Station during the production of Clay Bricks, you should place the 2 structures near each other.
Brick Station[]
Brick stations are required to make bricks, it is highly recommended that you place it on or near the furnace.
Station |
Loom[]
Looms are required to make cloth. Cloth can be found in crates randomly. You must be standing near the loom for it to work.
Tanning Rack[]
Tanning Racks are required for converting Raw Hide into Leather. Raw hide has no purpose other than crafting one of the tool belts, though leather has many purposes. One raw hide will covert to one leather. You must be standing near the tanning rack for it to work.

Campfire[]
A basic heat source.
This is the most basic kind of Cooking Fire and also the least durable. It requires 4x Sticks to craft, You can also Left Click or long press E while holdingh a stick in hand to refuel the fire. (This goes for all 3 types of camp fires.)
To light, you need to use kindling (crafted with 2 Sticks). Hold the kindling then long press E over the fire, alternate left/right mouse buttons to set fire.
To use the campfire, drag the object to be cooked into the fire and either hold it in place or drop it so that it rests balanced on top of the fire. Cooking times average about 1 to 1.5 minutes. When the food is complete, a bell chime will sound and the item's name will then be prefixed with "Cooked".
Fire |
Fire Pit[]
An attachment to the campfire that increases durability.
Fire Pit is an upgrade of the Campfire, it lasts longer than its previous counterpart.
It requires 3x Rocks next to the Campfire to be crafted into a Fire Pit.
To use the fire pit, light the pit with a lighter. Drag the object to be cooked into the fire and either hold it in place or drop it so that it rests balanced on top of the fire. Cooking times average about 1 to 1.5 minutes. When the food is complete, a bell chime will sound and the item's name will then be prefixed with "Cooked".

Hobo Stove[]
Allows for a large amount of food to be cooked without requiring your attention.
Like a Fire Spit, a Hobo Stove allows food to be cooked unattended. However, the Hobo Stove utilizes the right-click dragging interaction to place the food, and allows for a much greater number of items to be cooked at once.

Pit |
Smoker[]
Cooks a large amount of food without requiring your attention, preserves food from spoilage.
Like a Fire Spit or Hobo Stove, the Smoker allows food to be cooked unattended. Food cooked in the smoker does not spoil, and can therefore be stored safely for a long time.
Food can be placed in the smoker by using the right-click dragging mechanic, and many items can be smoked at once. However, cooking food in the smoker takes longer than cooking on other fires.
Plant-derived foods such as Potatoes, cannot be cooked in the smoker.
This structure improves upon the fire spit by having 5 slots in which food can be cooked.
