Exp. Update 0.18.00 is an update for Stranded Deep released on October 31, 2016.
We’ve started to introduce some of the new menu design into the experimental branch. At this stage, it’s very much a work in progress and not complete but it is good to see the changes to the structure of the main menus. One change you will notice is that there is no more ‘My Game’ option. We realized that this screen could be too overwhelming for new players who just wanted to get into the game. The world editing functionality from the previous ‘My Game’ menu and map editing from the previous ‘Map Editor’ menu have now been combined into the new ‘Cartographer’ menu. From the Cartographer, you can customize your world, create a new world and create and edit maps like you used to. The new menu layout is hopefully clearer and more concise.
Most of the new UI layout and design has also been finalized and now just needs to be implemented.
There’s a fair bit of work in the new UI design and it will bring some long-awaited changes with it. There will be new crafting menus (including a reincarnation of the sorely missed quick-crafting menu) and a new inventory with new UI-based storage for loot, opening the door for more expansions like raft storage and cabinets. Once the new main menus are visually complete, we’ll be looking at moving the latest experimental changes to the stable branch.
We’re also working on a new tutorial which is shaping up great. The new tutorial puts you in a unique scenario and will cover most in-game mechanics before launching you into your survival experience.
There are also some revisions to the algorithm for island generation in this build. Island generation is now more stable and consistent with better item placement. We also fixed some regressions for floating physics items.
